GMT Fare Tracker

This dashboard provides detailed fare transaction information for Green Mountain Transit’s urban service area in Chittenden County. GMT’s rural services are fare-free and are not included in these totals.

Each time a rider boards a bus and validates a fare, a fare transaction is recorded. This dashboard summarizes those transactions in three different ways:

These categories help show who is riding, what fares they use, and how rides are paid for.

Additional information on partner transactions is also provided below.

Please note that fare data is compiled from multiple systems and may contain errors or inconsistencies. We make every effort to process, reconcile, and format the data accurately, but some error may remain.

Data downloads are available at GMT’s open data site.

Fare Group

Fare Group shows the broad category of fare used for a ride.

The three Fare Groups are:

  • Regular Fare – standard fares available to all riders
  • Discounted Fare – reduced fares available to eligible riders, such as seniors, youth, or riders with disabilities
  • Sponsored Fare – rides funded by partner organizations such as schools, employers, or community programs

Fare Capture Method

Fare Capture Method describes how the fare was validated when the rider boarded the bus.

Categories include:

  • Cash – cash paid at the farebox
  • Mobile – a mobile ticket scanned from a phone
  • Smart Card – a smart card tapped at the farebox
  • Farebox Key – a driver-entered category used for certain eligible riders (for example, students at partner schools).
  • ID Card – an institutional ID card swiped at the farebox
  • Credit Card – a credit card tapped at the farebox

Changes in this chart may reflect shifts in how riders choose to pay or how fares are recorded.

Fare Funding Source

Fare Funding Source shows who ultimately pays for the ride.

Categories include:

  • Fare – the rider paid the fare directly
  • Partner – a partner organization, such as a school, employer, or social service program, paid for the ride
  • Fare Cap – the ride was covered through a daily or monthly fare cap program
  • Agency – GMT covered the cost of the ride, such as for a Free Ride

Partner Transactions

Partner programs provide ride access through agreements with organizations such as schools, employers, and community groups. These transactions are included in the Sponsored Fare group and funded through Partner sources.

While most partner programs are administered through accounts or rider IDs, Single-ride vouchers are distributed by community organizations and are valid for one trip. These vouchers began being tracked in February 2026.

Only partner programs that account for at least 1% of average monthly ridership are displayed below.
